Instruction

My methodology to teaching the violin is simple: build a strong foundation and the
music will follow. Whether working with a beginner or the more advanced student, a
strong technical foundation will give them the proficiency to express themselves
musically.

Music Theory is the technical study of music (note names, rhythms, etc). I include the
study of music theory in lessons for the simple reason that it is not possible to
completely understand music without at least comprehending the fundamentals of
theory. Learning these skills will help the student understand the pieces he or she is
playing and combined with their technical skills will help them to become a more
complete musician.

After observing many students, I have come to understand that musicality is inherent
in most people and all that needs to be done in lessons (beyond the technical aspects of
playing) is to encourage this musicality to be expressed naturally. Many times
students get caught up in the technical aspects of playing (which is all too easy to do),
and lose the simple enjoyment of music. It is always my goal to remind all students
that they are making music and to take a step back and enjoy the experience!

I am currently located in Cincinnati, Ohio and maintain a private studio offering violin
